We are delighted to share that two members of 4 New Square Chambers, Richard O’Brien and Shail Patel are to be appointed King’s Counsel.
These appointments are made by His Majesty The King on the advice of the Lord Chancellor following consideration by the independent KC Selection Panel.
Richard has a successful practice in commercial law, professional liability and public law & human rights. He was appointed to the Attorney-General’s A-Panel of approved counsel in 2017 and recent cases include the first challenge in the world to the use of automated facial recognition technology. He is described as “extremely incisive in his thinking and practical in his recommendations” and with “a brain the size of Britain”.
Shail is a commercial litigator with a particular focus on financial services, fraud, insurance, professional liability and costs. He is a leading specialist in securities actions under s.90 and s.90A of FSMA and his caseload spans multi-jurisdictional disputes in courts and arbitration proceedings. He is described as “a genius in the courtroom” and “forensic, very clever, strategic and knowledgeable”.
We warmly congratulate both members on their well-deserved appointments.
