Three awards for 4 New Square at the Chambers & Partners UK Bar Awards 2020

News & Judgments
20 November 2020

We are thrilled to have been named ‘Professional Negligence Set of the Year’ at the virtual Chambers & Partners UK Bar Awards 2020 last night. Congratulations to Alison Padfield KC for winning ‘Insurance Silk of the Year’ and to Roger Stewart KC for winning ‘Professional Negligence Silk of the Year’.

In Chambers UK’s recent guide it was noted that Alison ‘has considerable prowess across both insurance and professional negligence cases and is particularly noted for her methodical and meticulous approach. She handles insurance and reinsurance arbitrations, as well as litigation, and is also the author of Insurance Claims.’ Roger is  ‘renowned for his skill in handling indemnity claims and related coverage matters. He acts for a comprehensive range of clients and has recently focused in particular on claims concerning patent agents and lawyers. He has contributed over the years to the literature on the subject of professional liability, and is instructed at the appellate stage in some of the most important cases in the area.’

4 New Square is ranked as the top set for Professional Negligence by Chambers UK and described this year as offering ‘unparalleled capabilities in this area, regularly attracting key instructions for and against professionals in the legal, financial and insurance sectors. The set excels in any case involving advice on financial planning, investments, tax liability, property or the conduct of litigation. It is notable for its deft handling of the high-value – such as an estimated £1.5 billion claim brought by the Danish tax authority against funds and their advisers – and the legally complex, including a number of recent cases on limitation, or causation, or successor practices in claims against solicitors. The barristers have continued to appear before the appellate courts in high-profile cases such as Sir Christopher Evans v PwC and Matthew v Sedman. They attract high praise from instructing solicitors, who say: “It is the best professional negligence set in the country: the strength and depth it has is phenomenal.”’

Thank you very much to all our clients who provided feedback and to Chambers & Partners for their recognition.
