Professional Negligence Barristers at 4 New Square
Our barristers appear in many of the most prominent and high value professional liability cases. Jackson & Powell on Professional Liability, the leading practitioner book on this area of law, continues to be edited in house.
Cases range from multi-million pound claims in a wide variety of commercial contexts to claims by private individuals who feel they have been let down by their professional advisers. We act in cases involving the full range of professions and are experienced in cases with an international element.
Whatever the claim, whatever the profession and whether acting for the claimant or the defendant, we bring to it both an understanding of the underlying circumstances and experience of similar cases.
Our work in this area extends to issues of professional indemnity insurance, including disputes as to avoidance or denial of cover and as to the meaning and effect of policy terms.
‘Considered the pre-eminent set for professional negligence work, 4 New Square has unbeatable bench strength which covers claims in all relevant sectors. It represents both claimants and defendants in matters brought against insurance brokers, lawyers, accountants and financial advisers, and professionals in the technology and construction industries. The set fielded a prominent team in the case of Dreamvar v Mishcon de Reya, an important case on the extent of solicitors’ liability for their unwitting involvement in conveyancing fraud, and among other notable recent cases was Re One Blackfriars, which tested the scope of an administrator’s duty when selling an asset. A solicitor reports: “All of the barristers are very strong. We work with them as a proper team: they are very accessible and we trust them to always deliver on time.”‘ – Chambers & Partners, 2020: Professional Negligence
