Alex has expertise in commercial dispute resolution as well as administrative and public law matters.
His commercial practice primarily focuses on financial services matters and securities litigation. Before joining chambers, Alex practised as a solicitor at Allen & Overy LLP (now A&O Shearman) and Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP where he developed a substantial financial services advisory practice representing banks, investment firms and funds. He is a co-editor of Jackson & Powell on Professional Liability (chapters on the regulation of financial services and financial practitioner liability) and the co-author of a chapter on recognised investment exchanges in Financial Markets and Exchanges Law. He regularly presents on financial services matters and is a member of COMBAR and FSLA.
Between September 2020 – August 2021, Alex served as the judicial assistant to Lord Leggatt at the UK Supreme Court. In this role, he worked on a number of high-profile appeals including the FCA COVID-19 Business Interruption Test Case [2021] UKSC 1; Uber BV v Aslam [2021] UKSC 5; Manchester Building Society v Grant Thornton [2021] UKSC 20; FS Cairo (Nile Plaza) LLC v Brownlie [2021] UKSC 45; Kostal UK v Dunkley [2021] UKSC 47 and Lloyd v Google [2021] UKSC 50.
Alex regularly appears unled in both substantive and procedural hearings in the High Court and County Court
