We are delighted to announce that Matthew Waszak has joined Chambers.

Head of Chambers, Nicholas Bacon QC said: “We are absolutely delighted to have Matt join us. Matt has already established an excellent reputation in the field of costs and will add yet more depth to the 4 New Square Costs Team.”

Matthew Waszak said: “I am absolutely thrilled to be joining the 4 New Square Costs Team. I have long admired its outstanding work and look forward to working with and alongside the Bar’s leading costs practitioners.”

Matt joins 4 New Square after almost 8 years in practice at Temple Garden Chambers. While his early practice was rooted in a broad range of civil common law work, he now specialises in all aspects of costs litigation and litigation funding.

Matt is sought after by clients in high-value cases and those involving complex and novel points of law both between the parties and on a solicitor and client basis. He regularly appears in the Senior Courts Costs Office and before Regional Costs Judges, as well as in appellate proceedings on points of appeal.  His work covers the intricacies of fixed costs right up to the most complex of cases.  Matt is well versed in the use of the electronic bill and is an experienced cross-examiner. He advises on a broad range of strategic litigation funding issues and is regularly instructed to draft CFAs and retainers. His clients range from market-leading solicitors through to government departments, police forces and local authorities.

Recognised as a leading Costs Junior by the directories, Matt is described as “Energetic and just really good to be around, he is always thoroughly charming and absolutely on top of the subject matter.” “He’s tenacious and extremely good on the more technical points that arise in a case.” “He has developed great depth of knowledge in this area”. “Knowledgeable and has particular ability in relation to the more difficult and complex cases. His advice is thorough and clear, and he is able to deal with awkward opponents skilfully.” (Chambers & Partners).  “A pragmatic individual with particular ability in relation to the more difficult and complex cases”. “Utterly superb costs knowledge.” (Legal 500).
