Kendrah Potts represented Lucas Paquetá in his successful defence of FA spot-fixing charges

News & Judgments
1 August 2025

Mr Paquetá was charged by The FA with four breaches of FA Rule E5.1 in relation to Premier League fixtures between November 2022 and August 2023. It was alleged that he had intentionally sought to receive yellow cards to influence betting markets – charges which carried the risk of a lifetime ban from football.

Following a full hearing before an independent Regulatory Commission, all charges under Rule E5 were found to be not proven. Two charges of breaching Rule F3 – failing to provide information – were upheld. The written reasons are not yet available.

4 New Square Chambers’ Kendrah Potts was instructed alongside Nick De Marco KC by Dan Lowen, Alastair Campbell and Jonathan Hyman of Level Law.

This case follows Kendrah’s successful representation of clients in other recent notable and complex disciplinary cases, including representing world number 1 tennis player Jannik Sinner (in his defence of anti-doping rule violation charges) and an agent in successfully challenging FIFA’s Football Agent regulations (Beckett v FIFA CAS 2024/A/10918), highlighting her position as a leading barrister in sports disciplinary cases.
