7 July 2026

The UK Jurisdiction Taskforce’s (UKJT) Legal Statement on Liability for AI Harms under the private law of England and Wales will be launched this evening at an event hosted by LawtechUK at The Law Society.

4 New Square Chambers Isabel Barter was a member of the drafting team responsible for preparing the Legal Statement. The Statement considers how established principles of English private law apply to harms arising from the use of artificial intelligence, with a particular focus on negligence, as well as issues including professional liability, vicarious liability and liability for false statements generated by AI.

The Legal Statement forms part of the UKJT’s ongoing work to provide guidance on the application of English law to emerging technologies and follows a public consultation held earlier this year.

Further information about the launch event is available here.
