Carola Binney winner of The Times/One Essex Court Law Awards essay prize

Many congratulations to Carola Binney on winning 1st Prize at The Times/One Essex Court Law Awards 2021 for her essay titled ‘Stereotyping and unconscious racial bias: stumbling blocks for parties, witnesses and aspirant lawyers alike. How should the law and the profession respond?’.

Carola’s article was published this morning by The Times and can be viewed here (paywall).

Carola is a pupil at 4 New Square. She read History at Magdalen College, Oxford, graduating with First Class Honours (4th highest in year) and winning several University and College prizes. She took a year out to teach English in China, before undertaking the Graduate Diploma in Law at Oxford Brookes, where she finished joint first in her year. She was awarded Lord Bowen, Lord Denning and Hardwicke scholarships by Lincoln’s Inn, and holds a First Class LLM from the University of Cambridge. Carola enjoys writing, and while at Oxford won the University’s Ronnie Payne Prize for Student Journalism. She has been published in several national newspapers and magazines.
