Court of Appeal Judgment Clarifies Rules on Interim Statutory Bills

News & Judgments
1 August 2024

This morning the Court of Appeal handed down judgment in the case of Signature Litigation LLP V Ivanishvili, giving reasons for the dismissal of the appeal against the decision of Costs Judge Leonard.

The appeal related to whether it was possible for the Appellant to render interim statutory bills for discounted fees when acting under a discounted conditional fee agreement. Costs Judge Leonard had held that it was not. The Court of Appeal dismissed the appeal against that decision. Its judgment will be the leading decision on the circumstances in which interim statutory bills can be rendered.

Roger Mallalieu KC and Simon Teasdale acted for the successful Respondent, instructed by Blake Morgan, Ben Williams KC and George McDonald for the Appellant, all of 4 New Square Chambers.
