4 New Square Chambers is delighted to welcome Cyrus Benson upon his retirement as long-time Co-Chair of the International Arbitration Practice Group at Gibson Dunn.
A dual-qualified New York/English lawyer, Cyrus is widely recognised as a leading figure in international arbitration. Described in the legal directories as “an exceptional lawyer and first-rate advocate,” he brings with him a wealth of experience and an outstanding reputation in global dispute resolution encompassing both commercial and investment treaty disputes.
Cy’s practice spans a broad range of sectors, including oil and gas, mining, telecoms, financial services and construction/infrastructure. He has experience in arbitrations under all major institutional rules – ICC, LCIA, UNCITRAL, DIAC, SIAC, AAA, and ICSID as well as in ad hoc proceedings, both as counsel and arbitrator. His principal focus at 4 New Square will be sitting as arbitrator.
Commenting on his move, Cy said “after 34 years of large firm practice, I have come to the cross-roads where sitting as arbitrator beckons. I am excited about making that my focus and 4 New Square Chambers’ excellent reputation, expertise and forward-thinking make it a natural new home and platform from which to do so.”
Head of Chambers, Nicholas Bacon KC added: “Cyrus has an excellent reputation in international arbitration circles and we are looking forward to working with him to mutual benefit. 4 New Square Chambers has built up its international arbitration and commercial litigation experience considerably in recent years and Cyrus joining us is testament to our reputational positioning in the market as housing leading international arbitration and commercial teams.”
