Surveyors & Valuers
The fall in the domestic and commercial property markets in the late 1980s and early 1990s led to a mass of claims against surveyors and valuers. Such claims (for both lenders and defendant professionals) were already a regular feature of our work and members of chambers were involved in many cases in the 1990s including the leading case of BBL/SAAMCO from trial to the House of Lords. The recent recession has led to a new wave of such claims and we are again regularly instructed to bring and defend them.
We understand what it is reasonable to expect of a surveyor or valuer in particular circumstances and the methodology of commercial valuation. We have great familiarity with issues such as contributory negligence by lending institutions and issues of causation and remoteness.
We also act on claims by purchasers, whether of residential or commercial property.
