On 15 June 2012 HHJ Simon Brown QC (sitting as a deputy High Court judge) dismissed Mr Bruno Venturi’s claim for over €700,000 against Eurobet UK Ltd, which was represented by Patrick Lawrence QC and Carl Troman. Mr Venturi had been betting on a game called 60 Seconds on Eurobet’s website. A software ‘bug’ meant that the cost of five out of every six bets he placed was not deducted from his account with the result that his account balance appeared to have increased from €20 to over €700,000 in a little over three hours of intensive play on the evening of 28 January 2009. The Court accepted Eurobet’s case that the cost of the bets placed by the Claimant was €922,282 and that those bets generated winnings of €862,374 so the true state of the Claimant’s account was that he actually lost €59,908.
