“Absolutely zooming at the moment having acted in a raft of insurance-related disputes, professional negligence claims and house-building arbitrations”; the “charming Anneliese Day has a very substantial insurance practice which in turn has given rise to a strong professional negligence practice”; “impresses with her sound advice and "incredibly articulate and eloquent" advocacy, often gaining favourable results against senior opponents”; “a standout junior thanks to her "tremendous intellect and ability to converse at a client's level"; a true all rounder who is a “damned good court performer”, “extremely bright and formidable”, “superb with clients” and who has “excellent judgment”. Anneliese is also been commended for her excellent client care: "She quickly cuts through the detail and provides easily understandable advice.”.
Anneliese has a strong commercial practice specialising in professional liability claims in a commercial context (acting for both claimants and defendants), insurance and reinsurance, construction and commercial disputes. She regularly appears before the Commercial Court, Chancery Division, TCC and appellate courts as well as in arbitrations, mediations and adjudications.
Anneliese has been consistently rated as a leading junior in respect of professional negligence, construction and commercial work in the directories. In 2010 she was shortlisted for professional negligence junior of the year by Chambers & Partners. In the 2011 edition of Chambers & Partners she is stated to be “fantastically well regarded” in the professional negligence field, "a star in the making" and when she runs cases it is "no disadvantage not having a silk on board." She is "sharp and incisive," she "instils confidence in clients" and she is an excellent advocate.
Anneliese has been additionally described in such publications as:
"smart and tactically aware", "bringing a calm and pragmatic approach to her cases that impresses senior QCs and judges", "remarkably quick on the uptake", "impressing with her paperwork skills and strength on her feet", a "first class advocate, often against quite senior barristers, and popular with the clients", "responsive and easy to deal with", “combining intellectual strength with good junior work" and “notable for her exemplary work”.
Anneliese relishes the challenge of being involved in high court proceedings and arbitration unled against more senior opposition but is equally at home working as part of a large team involved in multi-party litigation. She is a firm believer in seeking to bring added value to any case whatever her role.
Anneliese has an extremely strong academic background. After studying law at Cambridge (where she obtained a first), Anneliese was awarded a Kennedy Scholarship and spent a successful year at Harvard. On returning to the U.K. she came fifth in Bar Finals. She thrives on the cut and thrust of the court room but also aims to bring commerciality to the cases she is involved in.
Anneliese has been an editor of Jackson & Powell on Professional Liability since 2002. She also contributed to Human Rights & Civil Practice (Sweet & Maxwell, 2001).
She is a member of the Professional Negligence Bar Association, COMBAR, the Chancery Bar Association, London Common Law & Commercial Bar Association, Tecbar, the Society of Construction Law and the South Eastern Circuit.
Anneliese has acted and accepts instructions as an arbitrator in relation to issues concerning professional indemnity insurance.
