Call: 2009
Ben is developing a broad commercial practice, with a particular focus on work relating to insurance and the liability of professionals.
As an undergraduate, Ben read Politics, Philosophy and Economics at Oxford, obtaining a First Class degree. He went on to receive his legal training at City University, achieving a Distinction in his GDL and being marked Very Competent in his BVC. A member of Middle Temple, Ben was awarded a Diplock Scholarship to support him in his BVC year.
During his pupillage at 4 New Square, Ben was supervised by Neil Hext and Ben Elkington. As well as assisting and observing his supervisors in conference, mediation and court, he drafted notes, opinions and pleadings in a range of commercial disputes relating to professional liability, insurance coverage, construction and technology, product liability, liability for fire, and financial services legislation.
In his own practice, Ben has taken on written and court work in a variety of commercial and civil cases, involving mortgagee and landlords’ property claims (including sale-and-rent-back disputes), consumer credit agreements, the supply of goods and services, and spread-betting.
Prior to commencing his pupillage at 4 New Square, Ben undertook a secondment at the London office of an international law firm, analysing professional liability and insurance disputes. Since becoming a tenant, he has again spent a period on secondment at a law firm working as a pre-litigation claims handler for professional indemnity insurance companies.
Just as comfortable providing advice as making submissions, and equally adept at written work as in court or conference, Ben has a keen understanding of the needs and commercial considerations of solicitors, insurers and lay clients. He is happy to accept instructions in matters which cross the spectrum of Chambers’ work.
