Starting your pupillage
At the outset you will be introduced to the members of chambers and staff. There is then a two day pleading and advices course, run by a junior member of chambers, where key topics are considered and pupils have the chance, in a non assessed environment, to raise any questions they may have.

Pupil supervisors
You will be allocated a pupil supervisor, chosen to ensure you see a full range of chambers work. Pupils share the supervisor’s room and accompany them in all aspects of their practice. You will move to a new pupil supervisor in January and again in April. We try to accommodate any interest you may have in a specialist area of work, for example, making arrangements for you to gain some experience of chancery/commercial work by spending a month with a practitioner in this field. You may sometimes also work with other members of chambers if there is case of special interest.

The first six months
You will go to court and attend conferences with your pupil supervisor. You will also assist your pupil supervisor with their written work: carrying out written advisory and drafting work on their current papers and undertaking detailed research on the law.

The second six months
During your second six months, you will take on an increasing  amount of your own court work. We place a strong emphasis on advocacy and support our pupils in gaining valuable practical experience. You can expect to be in court on your own about once a week up to the tenancy decision and more thereafter.

Advocacy
You will also take part in an assessed moot during your first six months. Workshop training sessions are run to help you prepare for the moot, which usually takes place before a former member of Chambers who is now a High Court Judge. In addition, sessions are run by junior members of chambers on the types of hearing that you will undertake on your own account in your second six months.

Environment
We aim to provide a friendly and sociable atmosphere. Pupils are included in chambers social events throughout the year.
