We appreciate that pupils are always keen to receive feedback on their performance. Pupil-supervisors will provide feedback regularly during your time with them. We use our own Bar Council-derived appraisal and assessment reports to look at progress at the end of the first and second three months. At these points, pupil supervisors carry out a formal appraisal, (two-way) feedback and assessment session with their pupil before giving the Pupillage Committee a written report. There are then reviews with the Head of the Pupillage at the end of the first and second three month stages. Pupils are also assessed by work done for a panel of members of Chambers and if possible by instructing solicitors in the second six months of pupillage.
We have a separate ring fenced procedure for dealing with any complaints or concerns raised by pupils during pupillage. One of our junior tenants also acts as an informal contact point for confidential discussion and advice during the year.
